Tomorrow afternoon, the Airstrip in Bungoma will play host to an important tournament, as the Patriots host their first ever rugby festival.
Webuye RFC and Busia RFC are expected to attend the event, with Nalondo, Kimilili and Kibabii RFC also likely to be present.
The tournament will kick off at midday with a series of rugby 7s matches, before eventually ending with a rugby 15s match that is expected to kickoff at 2pm.
Both Wazalendo Senior and Junior teams are co-hosting this festival, fans are highly advised to show up in large numbers and since it’s Oktoberfest, am guessing we all know the drink of choice. Come one, come all. #LetUsMakeBungomaRugbyGreatAgain
Plenty of activities lined up for tomorrow, as the Patriots take to the field for the fourth Sunday in a row.
Peter Wamoto’s Wazalendo Senior shall take on Peter Bildad Ogeta’s Wazalendo junior in the first match of the day which also doubles up as the Wazalendo derby.
The Wazalendo Senior team will then face Kibabii RFC in what is regarded as the township derby. The last time this two sides met the game ended in a draw, it will be interesting to see which team gets the win.
Kimilili ‘Jogoo’ Rugby
The last match for the Wazalendo Senior will be against Kimilili RFC popularly known as Jogoo RFC. The two sides have already met twice this year and each have a win from the two meetings. It promises to be a mouth watering clash as a very physical Bungoma side takes on a much structured Kimilili team.
Wazalendo’s founder Peter J will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow, and has delegated coaching duties to his Brother James Wens and Wazalendo Junior’s founder Peter Bildad. He will be joined by family and close friends to mark the day that the first Patriot was born.
Appeal To Fans
It is a humble appeal that fans continue to show up in large numbers to support the home team. Wazalendo Rugby is a community initiative owned by the people. Come one, come all.

Mike Nyando was on fire and in the second half he completed his hattrick with two stunning tries, showing serious gas and speed to bag the tries on both occasions.

Things got off to an interesting start, when the rugby 10s match between Wazalendo senior and Wazalendo junior commenced. Bildad Ogeta scoring barely a minute into the match, to get the juniors ahead.
The first half had no other scores, and as the two teams went into the break it was Wazalendo junior that was 5-0 up. Tides changed in the second half and two quick tries by Rapogi and Mike Mare, put the Wazalendo senior back in control of the match. A late lapse in defence gifted Jacob Silali an opportunity to equalise, ending the game at 10 apiece.
Team doctor, Kiprono, did notable work, tending to the injured.
